RENOVATING A HELMET WITH METALLIC PAINT…

Metallic paint plays an important role in the world of automotive decoration, which is why it offers a very attractive finish on any element related to this field.

An old motorcycle helmet is an excellent excuse to showcase the aesthetic finish that metallic paint gives to surfaces and to put a restoration process into practice. In addition, we will take the opportunity to experiment a little with different tones and subtle textures.

To give the helmet a sporty look, we thought it would be a good idea to include a logo as personal and iconic to us as HARDCORE, since its dynamic aesthetic perfectly matches the “tuning” concept.

MATERIALS:

• Universal primer


• Violet metallic paint


• WEPRO multi-purpose silver paint


• Blue metallic paint


• Glossy acrylic varnish

INSTRUCTIONS:

1- Clean and lightly sand the surface of the helmet to be painted, then clean it again.

2- Use masking tape to cover the areas you do not want to paint.

3- You can use a cutter or scalpel to carefully remove any excess tape from the protected elements.

4- Apply two thin coats of universal primer.

5- Apply two thin coats of violet metallic paint.

6- For this project, we experimented with some textures by applying silver paint onto plastic film and creating an irregular, random stamping effect.

7- Apply a thin coat of blue metallic paint.

8- We wanted to add a more personalized touch by applying white paint using a Hardcore logo stencil.

9- Finish the result by generously applying glossy acrylic varnish.

10- Let it dry for at least half an hour.

Tips:

• The more carefully you mask the areas you don’t want to paint, the more professional the final result will be.


• Try to paint outdoors or in well-ventilated areas to avoid paint buildup or residue.


• Apply the varnish generously to achieve a glossy finish.


• Don’t be impatient and respect the drying times.


• After using each spray can, spray upside down until no more paint comes out. This helps prevent the nozzles from clogging and avoids the need to use new ones next time.
