The "Condensation-Effect" Goes Viral with Our WEPRO Frosted Glass Spray

Intervening a mirror with WEPRO Frosted Glass Effect is so easy that, indirectly, a new artistic trend has emerged: the condensation-glass effect.
In this article, we explain its history, how to apply it, and how we’ve given it a twist.

It all started with Jochen Mühlenbrink, a painter who developed a painting style that imitates the effect of a fogged glass surface traced with a finger. One day in August 2023, Jochen decided to try that same effect in a more rudimentary way: intervening a mirror with varnish.

We won’t judge the strategy of offering his subtly naked reflection—perhaps to perpetuate the technique’s virality—but barely a month later he stopped using the hashtag #varnish, probably realizing it wasn’t the most efficient product for that purpose.

The fogged glass effect is basically a frosted finish, so after the viral success of Mühlenbrink’s pieces—probably developed using acid—it was only a matter of time before someone decided to try it with frosted glass spray…

Last April, MIST-Z launched his laid-back proposal, which was later consolidated with an exhibition at our MTN SHOP Madrid. But the wildest moment came when, on La Revuelta, Broncano gifted one of his paintings to the singer Ozuna. Influencer Yisas Villegas then gave the final push to the hype surrounding this trend.

So, paying tribute to—and not to say copying—all of them… and since, if there’s one thing we can claim, it’s being the first to propose different uses for the frosted effect beyond showers and offices, we decided to create our own mirror with a message that’s very much on point.

MATERIALS:

- A mirror
- Masking tape
- MTN Dabber in the color of your choice
- Cutter
- WEPRO Frosted Glass Effect
- Instant adhesive

STEPS:

1. First things first, as always: clean the mirror until there isn’t a single speck of dirt left.

2. Take the masking tape and cover the entire surface of the mirror, preferably in horizontal lines. Start from the bottom and work your way up; we’ll explain why later.

3. Use an MTN Dabber to draw the design or whatever you want. This type of marker best imitates the effect of a finger, and the drips it creates will also serve as a template. Having placed the tape lines from bottom to top will prevent the paint from seeping between them.

4. Use a cutter to cut out the contours of the drawn lines.

5. Remove the tape outside the cut contours.

6. Spray the mirror with WEPRO Frosted Glass Effect from a distance of about 15 cm. One coat will be more than enough. Remember to shake the spray well before use and spray it upside down afterward so the nozzle doesn’t clog and you don’t have to replace it.

7. Let it dry for 30 minutes and remove the remaining tape.

8. Add a few fake droplets with instant adhesive for extra realism.
