ReturnWe Were There - XII: La Ciudad Sonora by Dive Dibosso (1994-1996)
Dive Dibosso is a producer and founding member of the legendary Spanish rap group, 7 Notas 7 Colores. He also happens to be an eye witness and participant in the history of Barcelona graffiti and Montana Colors, whose testimony comes in the form of the medium that has made him famous in the world of hip-hop: music.
Our next musical selector in the “We Were There” series is a renowned hip-hop producer from Barcelona who has plied his trade as a DJ for decades. His artistic name is Dive Dibosso although in his early years, the Barcelona graffiti scene knew him simply as Dive.
DIVE AND GRAFFITI
Dive became an activist of hip-hop culture through graffiti, as part of the second generation of pioneers in the city in the late 80s. He was an original member of the San Andrés Posse (S.A.P.) and is a member of the 3RL, a historic graffiti crew.
After a decade involved in graffiti, he began producing beats for MCs in the mid-90s. Dive developed a very personal sound that made him stand out right away and opened doors for him to collaborate on multiple projects during the early years of his career. His particular sound made him a founding member of the seminal Barcelona rap group, 7 Notes 7 Colors.
WITNESS TO THE CREATION OF MONTANA
Combining music and graffiti in the mid 90s gave him a unique perspective of the birth of Montana Colors and the developments that led to the transformations of graffiti culture in Barcelona and Spain. Dive Dibosso has assembled a DJ set that oscillates between 1994 and 1996, representing some of those magical moments in post-Olympic city.
Encapsulating emblematic sounds of the time - from the trip hop of Massive Attack and DJ Shadow to backpack hip-hop anthems by OC and The Beastie Boys - Dive Dibosso presents a time capsule that soundtracks the spread of graffiti culture throughout Europe.
